Since September 2019, VANK has begun Global Petition and Global Poster Project by targeting the world’s largest petition site (change.org) with 400 million subscribers. VANK is trying to announce the global community the issues about Korea and global issues such as hatred and racism towards Asians in the West.

The very first Global Petition started with the ‘Rising Sun Flag’ issue with the title “Ban the use of the Rising Sun Flag in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics” (maywespeak.com/2020) to address the international community about the resurgence of Japanese neo-militarism that threatens peace in Asia. Since then, VANK’s Global Petition team has been working on 35 petitions and 30+ posters until the date of issue of this article.

VANK’s Global Petition and Global Poster project are also global diplomatic activities that Korean youths take the lead in not only informing the facts and history of Korea abroad, but also in solving global problems that occur around the world. VANK believes that with the worldwide known petition site, anyone can easily inform people around the world of Korea’s position and gain cooperation and support from the global community, even if it is not through famous broadcasters and media.

VANK’s Global Petition and Global Project is also called as “21st century envoy to the Hague”. As in 1907, the Korean Emperor Gojong secretly dispatched a special envoy composed of Yi Sang-seol, Yi Jun, and Yi Wi-jong to the second Hague Conventions held in the Hague, the Netherlands to help the international community understand the illegality of the Eulsa Treaty(Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905), which was forcibly signed by imperialist Japan and to inform the restoration of Korea’s sovereignty. VANK’s 21st century special envoy, Global Petition and Global Poster Project is looking forward to worldwide citizen’s active participation that moves toward changing the world.
