The global climate crisis is an issue that has been apparent for decades now. Time is running out in trying to find ways to save the earth. There are many changes already occurring that will only intensify rising sea levels, higher levels of CO2 leading to a higher temperature, air quality worsening, animal and plant extinction, food shortages, etc in the next decades. There are ways that we as a global community must begin to save our planet. Many countries have promised to work together as they are economically most influential countries who are the main causes of this as well as the ones who should provide solutions to this problem. The main goal of the global community is to start reducing carbon emissions. If we are able to reduce these drastically in the next years, we will be able to see temperatures stabilize themselves and find a way to save our planet.
South Korea has been one of these countries that have pledged themselves to the climate change crisis. They launched their own Green New Deal in 2020 where they will invest 54.3 billion Won to shift much of its infrastructure to low carbon and decentralized energy. Doing this creates 659,000 jobs as well as saving the planet. By 2030 Korea have pledged to reduce its total greenhouse gas emissions by 24.4%. This promise was recently brought to light again during the UN sustainable Development Goals Moment where President Moon Jae-In as well as BTS made speeches. He promised that Korea would be a leading county in the SDG Moment to achieve the UN led goals. He not only discussed the importance of cross-border operation in the fight against climate change but stated that Seoul will realize its plan in October for going carbon neutral by 2050 .
The fight against climate change does not only affect one country alone. All countries will feel the impact of its changes. The Earth is the place that provides us with the means of survival and we as a global community must take care of it.
